Practice for the saloon started at 6pm on Friday evening with all but two drivers having arrived. Chas wasn't arriving until Saturday morning and Franz arrived later on and decided to practice and qualify on Saturday. The format was one minute each with all laps to count. Five drivers recorded totals over 9 laps, Ross Grogan 9.72, Stephen Siddall 9.62, Graeme Stephenson 9.18, Paul Shepherd 9.15 and Paul Harwood 9.11. These were joined in the top final by David Sargent, Michael Ovens and Neil Grogan. The B final comprised the remaining 9 drivers with a 'sit out'. Qualifying finished at around 10.15 pm and was followed by open practice untill the track closed at 11.45 and we all retired to the bar !
On Saturday morning Chas arrived and after setting up his 'shop' he had a bit of practice and then he and Franz did their qualifying. On to the finals and the B was relatively uneventful with only Martin Ellis retiring with car problems. Steve Sargent and Woody lead most of the way and Steve ran out a comfortable winner by 5 laps from Woody with Kev Gray 3rd 12 laps further back. The A final saw Graeme Stephenson retire very early and was later to be followed by Michael Ovens. At the front the two Pauls, Shepherd and Harwood, had a good battle all the way and Stephen Siddall, Ross Grogan and Neil Grogan were never far behind. Shep ran out winner by 6 laps from Paul Harwood with Stephen hanging on for 3rd, Ross 4th and Neil a good 5th. All these drivers beat Steve Sargents total and Steve ended up in 6th place.
